Description
Chestnut centre pole 4.00 m with pole cap
The centre pole carries the ridge of your stretch tent and sets the height of its highest point. This chestnut pole of 4.00 metres is the shortest centre pole in the chestnut range and comes with a rubber cap. Chestnut is untreated timber with the bark left on: every pole has its own curve and grain, and weathers grey outdoors on its own. It suits weddings and garden parties as much as campsites and glamping.
When do you choose the 4.00 m centre pole?
The difference between your side poles and your centre pole sets the shape of the tent. The greater that height difference, the more fall the fabric gets and the better rainwater runs off. 4.00 metres is the shortest centre pole in chestnut and suits smaller tents with side poles of 2.50 or 3.00 metres. For more ridge height, look at the centre pole in 4.50 metres or 5.00 metres. Of all the poles in your setup, the centre pole takes the highest load, so do not size it too tight.
Chestnut, eucalyptus or robinia?
Three timbers, three uses. Chestnut is untreated and keeps its bark: raw in character, every pole different, and it weathers grey. Eucalyptus is varnished, smooth and lighter, which counts if you put the tent up and take it down often — then the varnished eucalyptus centre pole in 4.00 metres makes more sense. Robinia is the heaviest and is meant only for tents that stay up; that pole is set in concrete. If you build up and down regularly and want natural timber, chestnut is the right one of the three.
What fits, and what does not
The rubber cap is included. For the foot there is the centre pole holder, which keeps the pole steady in place. Pole socks do not fit: they are made for 51 and 76 mm poles, and this pole is far thicker at 10 to 15 cm. The pole bolt sets are for the side poles, not for the centre pole.
