About the stretch tent
What size stretch tent do I need?
What size stretch tent do I need?
Work from the floor area. A 5.00 × 7.50 m (37.5 m²) seats 17 guests or holds 23 standing. A 7.50 × 10.00 m (75 m²) seats 37 or holds 70 standing, and a 10.00 × 15.00 m (150 m²) seats 72 or holds 134 standing. Seated dining needs roughly twice the space per guest. Note that the canvas size is not the whole story: you also need room for the guy lines. Allow 2 metres extra all round, with 1.5 metres as the minimum — so a 5.00 × 7.50 metre canvas needs a site of roughly 9.00 × 11.50 metres. View every size in 3D
Can you view the tent in 3D beforehand?
Can you view the tent in 3D beforehand?
Yes, in the configurator. You rotate the tent, zoom in on the details and switch between all the sizes we supply, from 5.00 × 7.50 to 15.00 × 21.00 metres. You choose the canvas colour, the pole material and whether a decking floor sits underneath, and see the floor area and how many guests fit seated and standing straight away. From the configurator you click through to the matching set. Stretch tent configurator
What is included in a complete stretch tent set?
What is included in a complete stretch tent set?
The canvas with its storage bag, all side and centre poles in the material you choose, triangle rope sets with stainless steel carabiners, 1000 × 30 mm ground anchors, stainless steel pole bolt sets, rope ratchets with rope, a storm strap with ratchet and a plastic storage box measuring 60 × 40 × 20 cm. Nothing needs to be ordered separately. Quantities scale with the size; the full contents are listed per size on the product page. See all complete stretch tent sets
Can I buy the canvas on its own?
Can I buy the canvas on its own?
Yes. Choose a separate canvas if you already own the poles, ropes and anchoring, for instance as a replacement. The complete set is for anyone starting from scratch. Stretch tent canvas
Do you also sell used stretch tents?
Do you also sell used stretch tents?
Yes, lightly used canvases and complete sets. The 5 × 7.50, 5 × 10.50 and 7.50 × 10 metre have a canvas of 740 grams per m². The square 4 × 4 and 5 × 5 metre are F4L canvases of 800 grams per m², the same quality as new, meant as a shade cloth over a terrace or garden. Stock varies: there are only a few of each size. Can Stretchtent-Shop put the tent up?
Can Stretchtent-Shop put the tent up?

Can the tent stay up on fixed poles?
Can the tent stay up on fixed poles?
Yes. In a fixed setup the robinia wooden poles stay in place and you remove only the canvas. Such a setup has no guy lines at all: the canvas is tensioned to the poles instead of to pegs in the ground. So no ropes cross walkways. That is why schools, sports clubs and after-school care often choose this setup. Stretch tent with fixed poles
Can the tent stay up all year?
Can the tent stay up all year?
It can. We still recommend taking the tent down over winter, which extends the life of the canvas. If snow falls, take the tent down or clear the snow off. Snow is heavy and that load lands on the centre pole, which in the worst case pushes through the canvas.
About canvas on its own
What else do you need if you only buy the canvas?
What else do you need if you only buy the canvas?
Poles and fixing materials are not included. You need side and centre poles, triangle rope sets with carabiners, ground anchors, rope ratchets with rope, pole bolt sets and a storm strap. If you do not already own those, a complete set works out cheaper. Complete stretch tent sets
How does this differ from a shade cloth?
How does this differ from a shade cloth?
A shade cloth is pitched without a centre pole. A stretch tent canvas works with one or more centre poles that lift the ridge, giving you more height under the canvas. Shade cloths
Which colour should you choose?
Which colour should you choose?
That is a matter of taste — technically the colours are identical. You choose from beige, taupe, silver, white, red and black. Do check stock: beige is always available, the other colours can vary.

How much does a stretch tent canvas weigh?
How much does a stretch tent canvas weigh?
The fabric weighs 800 grams per square metre. That puts a 5.00 × 7.50 metre canvas at roughly 30 kg, and the 15.00 × 21.00 metre at over 250 kg. From the larger sizes up, this is not a one-person lift.
Parts and materials
Eucalyptus, chestnut, robinia or aluminium poles?
Eucalyptus, chestnut, robinia or aluminium poles?
With a complete set you choose the pole material yourself. Eucalyptus is lacquered and maintenance-free, chestnut is supplied untreated and greys over time, and aluminium is the lightest option and does not rust. Robinia is not a choice within a set but the pole for a fixed setup with permanent poles: robinia wood is naturally hard and highly rot-resistant, so it stands outside for years without lacquer or impregnation. All pole types with sizes, weights and a comparison table
Can aluminium poles be extended?
Can aluminium poles be extended?
Aluminium poles yes, wooden ones no. A pole connector joins two poles, and an extension piece fits onto it: 0.5 and 1 metre for the 50.8 mm side poles, 0.5 to 2 metres for the 76 mm centre poles. That lifts an existing setup higher without buying a complete new set of poles. Stretch tent poles
Which tent peg do I need?
Which tent peg do I need?
Every complete set includes the 1000 × 30 mm, the standard size for stretch tents, with roughly 403 kg of pull-out resistance. For large tents or long-standing setups, move up to 1000 × 35 mm (±463 kg). If you pitch and strike often and weight matters, 800 × 25 mm (±267 kg) is lighter. Which tent peg do you need?
What if I cannot anchor into the ground?
What if I cannot anchor into the ground?
Then you can work with ballast. A peg will usually still go through asphalt, but not through concrete, paving or a roof terrace. Ballast blocks hold the tent in place without damaging the surface, available in 500, 780 and 1050 kg. A 1000-litre IBC container is the alternative — you fill it with water on site. Ballast and anchoring
What is the storm strap for?
What is the storm strap for?
The storm strap keeps the setup in place when it blows hard. You tension it tightly over the tent so that it presses down on the canvas. If wind gets under the tent during a storm, that pressure stops the centre pole from toppling. There are three lengths: 20, 25 and 35 metres, all three with a ratchet. Every complete stretch tent set already includes one. Storm straps
What do you use a triangle rope set for?
What do you use a triangle rope set for?
It is what you pitch the tent with. The rope runs from the anchoring to the pole, and the pole sits against the canvas. From that point two further lengths run to the loops left and right of the pole. That forms a triangle, which spreads the tension and pulls the canvas into the right shape, so rainwater runs off where it should. You do that with one complete set, not with loose ropes you knot to length yourself. The sets come with a stainless steel carabiner of 80 or 100 mm. Triangle rope sets
Can I put a floor under the stretch tent?
Can I put a floor under the stretch tent?
Yes. A decking floor gives you a level, stable surface where grass turns muddy, sand gives way or paving sits unevenly. A matching floor is available for most tent sizes, and delivery with on-site installation is possible. Decking floors under a stretch tent
Pitching and tools
What tools do you need to pitch a stretch tent?
What tools do you need to pitch a stretch tent?
A few tools make pitching a stretch tent considerably faster and easier. You drive the pegs into the ground with a sledgehammer, or with a peg driver if the pegs are large or you have a lot of them to do in a row. A tension lever lets you pull the rope tighter and get the tent properly under tension. A pole lifter set is what you use to move the poles while they are under tension. And afterwards you pull the pegs back out of the ground with a peg puller. Tools
How do you secure the centre pole?
How do you secure the centre pole?
With a centre pole holder: a zinc-coated base that you fix to the ground and that the centre pole stands in, so it cannot shift when the wind picks up. The holder comes with tensioners to secure the pole. For aluminium poles there are also base plates in 51, 76 and 120 mm, which you fix with two bolts or a 0.5 metre peg, depending on the surface. Base plates
How do you drive tent pegs into the ground?
How do you drive tent pegs into the ground?
By hand you use a 5 kg sledgehammer; the plastic/fibreglass shaft absorbs the blow. For large pegs, or a lot of pegs in a row, you do it mechanically with the Flex Pro XA peg driver, a petrol driver with a Honda GX35 engine that one person operates alone. Drive the peg in until only the head stands above the ground: that is where the guy line hooks on, and where the peg puller grips it later.
How do you get tent pegs back out of the ground?
How do you get tent pegs back out of the ground?
With a peg puller. A one-metre peg will not come out by hand. There are two versions: the yellow peg puller and our own peg puller for pegs of 20 to 35 mm, which covers all four peg sizes.
Why lay out a ground sheet before pitching?
Why lay out a ground sheet before pitching?
Because the canvas lies flat on the ground while you pitch. On sand, gravel or wet grass it picks up dirt and can be damaged. You lay out the ground sheet first and unfold the canvas on top of it. Available in 8 × 12 and 10 × 15 metres, 90 gsm. Tools
How do you stop someone tripping over a tent peg?
How do you stop someone tripping over a tent peg?
With a protective cap over the head of the peg. It reduces the risk of tripping and knocks, marks where the peg sits and protects the lawnmower when the tent stands on grass. Caps come in chino beige, white and black. Tent peg protective cap
How do you store and transport tent poles?
How do you store and transport tent poles?
With a stacking rack. Galvanised steel, stackable, and optionally with four stanchions that hold the poles in place. Suitable for wooden and aluminium tent poles, scaffolding tubes and other long rental material. If you load and unload weekly, it saves searching and damage. Stacking rack for tent poles
Fitting out and using
Can a stretch tent be heated?
Can a stretch tent be heated?
Yes, and that is exactly what makes a stretch tent usable in autumn and winter too. It is usually done with mobile heaters by the centre poles, or with heater dishes fixed to the centre pole — those keep the floor free for tables or a dance floor. Always keep your distance from the canvas and use approved equipment only. Heating a stretch tent
Can you hang lighting in the tent?
Can you hang lighting in the tent?
Yes, with festoon cable. The connectable set comes with 1 watt LED bulbs at 2200 K — extra warm light — in 10 and 25 metres; connect as many as you need for the length. If you want to decide where each bulb sits, take the bare festoon cable without sockets and the separate 0.7 watt bulbs, in warm white or in colour. Stretch tent lighting
Side walls
Can you fit side walls to a stretch tent?
Can you fit side walls to a stretch tent?
Yes. There are two systems. With the frame system the wall stands in a frame of its own: you start with a base frame — side wall, two uprights (poles) with cap and two beams — and extend with separate frames, so you decide how many sides you close off. The tensioned side walls are strung directly to the tent: you run one rope along the top and one along the bottom, and hang the wall from those. We explain that further down. They come with a clear window, solid or in mesh, 2.60 × 2.75 metres per wall (mesh 2.50 × 2.75).
Clear window, solid or mesh: which do you choose?
Clear window, solid or mesh: which do you choose?
It depends on what you want to keep out. A wall with a clear window lets light and a view through, so the tent does not close in. A solid wall shuts the side completely: the most protection against wind, rain and cold, with privacy on top. Mesh sits in between — it breaks wind and rain but lets air through. You decide per side what you close off, so you do not have to choose the same everywhere. Side walls
Can a side wall have a door?
Can a side wall have a door?
A side wall with an integrated door is possible, but it is not in the webshop as a product yet. Get in touch about the options and we will look at what works in your situation. With a door the tent stays closed and you decide where people come in and out — which suits hospitality, private functions and anywhere you want the entrance in one place. Get in touch
How do you attach a side wall to the tent?
How do you attach a side wall to the tent?
That differs per system. With the frame system the wall stands in a frame of its own, made up of two uprights (poles). Each side is guyed off with a rope to a peg, so the wall stays taut even in changeable weather. You need the base side wall once, after which you couple extensions to it. The frames come in 2.50, 3.00 and 3.50 metres wide, with or without a window.
A tensioned side wall has no frame of its own. You run one rope along the top of the opening and a second along the bottom, and the wall hangs between them. That keeps it taut without adding poles or frames. Side wall frame base
Care and repair
What do I do about a tear or hole in the canvas?
What do I do about a tear or hole in the canvas?
You can repair that yourself with a repair kit: canvas patches and glue, in four sizes from small to XL. Cut the patch ten centimetres larger than the damage, glue it onto a clean, dry surface and leave it at least sixteen hours to dry. This fixes tears, holes, open seams and wear around the fixing points. Repair kits: contents and instructions
Repair tape or a repair kit?
Repair tape or a repair kit?
Tape is the temporary fix. You seal a tear or hole on the spot, including in places you can barely reach, and make the real repair later. The tape is transparent, 7.5 cm wide and sold per 1, 2 or 10 metres. A repair kit is the permanent repair: a patch of the same canvas plus glue, which needs at least sixteen hours to dry. Repair tape for minor damage
Can you order patches and glue separately?
Can you order patches and glue separately?
Yes. If you already have glue, or need only a piece of canvas, you order them separately: patches of Ø 20 cm, Ø 50 cm and 120 × 75 cm, and glue in 15 and 90 gram tubes or a 1 litre tub. The complete repair kits come in small, medium, large and XL. Repair canvas and patches
How do you clean a stretch tent canvas?
How do you clean a stretch tent canvas?
Light soiling you remove yourself with a canvas cleaner from our range. If the canvas is properly dirty after a season, we can clean it professionally: you drop it off and collect it after treatment. Allow two to four weeks' processing time. Stretch tent cleaning
How do you store a stretch tent?
How do you store a stretch tent?
Dry and clean, in a storage bag. Most damage happens while the tent is not in use: dragged across paving, sand caught in the folds, packed away damp. Storage bags come in five sizes, from 5 × 7.50 to 10 × 15 metres. Tent storage bags
